Watch Your Child Dance!
Visitor’s Weeks
In Fall and again in the Spring, parents are invited to observe a portion of their child’s class. At the Fall Visitor’s Week, the dancers present a holiday dance piece. At the Spring Visitor’s Week, parents are invited to see the June Show dance and then are given important info about the Show.
Performances
All students enrolled in performing classes will be featured in the June Show. Our performing companies offer aspiring dancers many additional ways to gain experience and express their passion by performing including the Nutcracker Ballet & the Youth Ballet Spring Concert Performance (presented at the Strand-Capitol Performing Arts Center). Nutcracker Ballet holds open auditions in the Fall to all ballet students.
Performance dues are charged to dancers who participate in Greater York productions. Each dancer in the June Show is awarded a foot high trophy gets exciting choreography and most costuming needs (except personal wear such as tights). NEW! Details regarding this are under the class schedule listing for each division and on the June Show Participation Form. Please be sure to complete the June Show Participation Form.
Staying Informed and Additional Information
Newsletters are distributed four times per year & the Bulletin Boards and our Website often have important sign-ups & info. Please be sure to review these areas for the most updated policies, rules, regulations and news. The Season Calendar is posted on the dance center bulletin board and on our website ~ www.gydance.org. We rarely close; however, when we do, our website calendar is the first place to check or call the Dance Center office at 755-6683 for a recorded message, or watch Fox 43, WGAL-TV 8, or ABC 27 news.

- To enable us to contact parents, teachers, schools, physicians and the like to provide you with appropriate programs and care.

Only older students should be crossing the parking lot to a waiting car. PLEASE - DO NOT STAND OUTSIDE OR ALLOW CHILDREN TO PLAY OUTSIDE. No student may leave the premises (for example – walking to area restaurants) after being dropped off without written parental consent.
Parking Please park in the rear of the building and enter the Dance Center using the rear entrance (Eastern Blvd).
Artistic Decisions are decisions related to the vision, repertoire, sets, placement in choreography, costuming, music, casting, technical training, frequency of training, dancers’ rules and regulations, and discipline. Artistic decisions are left to the discretion of the directors and are not “up for discussion”. The dynamics created by parental pressures to cast or level a certain way are unhealthy to everyone and so this boundary is set. Casting and leveling is ongoing and may change at any time.
Advancement & Levels The evaluation of all students is continuous and dancers may be advanced at any time to the benefit of the dancer.
Dance Etiquette consists of courtesy and good attitudes. Chewing gum or candy, eating, talking, sitting down, smoking, leaning against the barres/mirrors or poor attitude are all unacceptable during a dance class as they would be in front of an audience onstage.
Dismissal Greater York Dance reserves the right to suspend or dismiss any student at any time whose attitude, overall conduct, health or fitness is judged unsatisfactory. If dismissed, tuition is forfeited.
Instructor - Student Contact Greater York Dance uses hands-on teaching and it is normal and completely appropriate for students to be manually and physically positioned and touched by faculty for the sole purpose of correction.
Student Assistant’s Program This program provides students with the ability to learn more about dance trough assisting core instructors with teaching. By working at a level lower than their own, dancers improve the basic foundations of their own technique. For the student interested in becoming an assistant, the experience of working with children under the tutelage of an experienced professional is invaluable. Interested assistants should contact the office; minimum age is 11.
Volunteering Parents, family and friends are most welcome and invited to join the many volunteers who nurture and support this non-profit corporation (501(c)3). Most of all, we hope you will feel the joy of helping the dancers and have fun in our GYCDE dance family.
Health You are the best judge of you or your child’s health. Please do not attend class based on the following:
Fever of 99.5+ - Inflammation of the eyes - Communicable disease -
More than one incidence of diarrhea - Coughing/flu symptoms - Vomiting
